Race Day, Sort Of

Well, this past weekend was the Derby Half Marathon. We ran it last year in about two and a half hours. We had every intent of running it this year as well, even though we had not adequately trained. JT had been sick for about two weeks and the night before the race, we flew home. As our plane descended, his ears began hurt to the point of not being able to hear. It was at that point that I had to force him not to run. It was hard for him because we went to the race the next morning. It was hard for me too and I am not even as "into" running as he is. We did go, however, to cheer on my mom, Bob, and my friend Jason from med school. My mom and Bob walked it with my Mom's friend Becky, and they did it in 4 hours. I am so proud of them. This was Jason's first half marathon and he did great....2 hours 21 minutes... It was a lot of fun!

Well I hope you like the pictures! I need to go. My friends are coming for dinner and I need to start cooking!

Psych Begins....

So I started my psychiatric rotation today. Not much to report because it was an orientation and the basics. I am sure there will be plenty of stories to come. We had a busy weekend. One of JT's former students and his wife-to-be were in town so we played tour guide. It was a great weekend to do so.... The weather was gorgeous so I took a ton of pictures. I figured that I would share them since there is not much to tell today....

Hello everyone! Sorry it has been a few days. I have taking my days off as they were intended....OFF. However, here are the pictures I promised of Sara's baby Landon. The first picture of Melinda and the baby. The second is of Morgan with Landon. I am abiding by the policy of do unto others as you would have them do unto you.....By that I mean, I did not put any pictures of Sara after she just delivered the baby.... She looked great by the way. However, after I have a baby, I will kill anyone who puts pictures of me post-delivery. Sara looked like she was going to the mall or work...me on the other hand, I can only imagine what I will look like.....

I don't have much to add....I do want you to check out Abby's blog from today. I found it interesting and I hope you do too. (Abby is the wife of JT's friend Phillip).

Well it is Saturday afternoon and I am using it as a lazy day!!!! Last night we went to the city to TJ MAXX. We had to get some sheets for our bed. JT has been wanting a king size bed for awhile. He found one he wanted about a month ago but it was too pricey. Well, they called us last week and the mattress was 50% off....So we now have a new bed and it needed sheets. Because our in-laws are kind enough to keep our baby Asia, we are able to have the white sheets and duvet that I have wanted for ages. I may end of getting some seafoam green ones eventually.... I may have to talk JT into that. And man, did you know how pricey duvets are. We went into Bed Bath & Beyond last night to see just how much they cost for a king bed. And let me tell you, they were more than $100, which for us is more than we were wanting to pay....Even more than that, some were more than $600. Don't get me wrong, they were of tremendous quality. At this time in our lives, the mattress was expense enough....we will stick with our full/queen size white comforter and save our money to get a fancy one when I am a real doctor (haha, which will be like 2015 or something like that).

I wanted to share a great clip from The Office that I talked about yesterday....Enjoy your Saturday.

I thought I would be more regular about posting, at least for the next week while I am off. Last night was my last night shift and therefore my last day of the family medicine rotation. Today I watching all the new shows we taped last night. Finally, with the writer's strike being finished, we all get our favorite shows back. Mine being The Office, which was great last night. I am now watching ER from last night. It seems to me that they would run out of stories for the ER...everything is so extreme. Real life is not always like that. Plus I get a little tired of the background stories and relationships...I just want to see the medicine. They did feature one of my favorite poems by ee cummings... I will share it with you.

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Anyways...For those of you who watched ER, they would never do the shocking experiment....They would also use an animal first....Some things are a bit crazy. And I still can't see John Stamos as anyone other than Uncle Jessie from Full House. OH, here is a tidbit of info you may have not known... Michale Crichton, the write and producer of ER who also was in charge of Jurassic Park....He went to Harvard Medical School. He, however, did not like it but was persuaded to finish. He never completed a residency so he can not practice. But that is where he gets much of his background knowledge for the show. Interesting, huh?

JT is working tomorrow so I am going to sleep in! Yay! I do not know our plans for the weekend. I will probably go to the gym because it is supposed to rain. If it doesn't, I may jog around here....Then again I don't know. I am just happy to sleep late without having to all night. Speaking of which, my lazy butt may go nap. America's Next Top Model is now on and really is not keeping me awake. I am waiting on JT to get home before I watch the other shows we taped.
My mom should be getting back from cancun soon. I look forward to talking to her. SOO Jealous.

My second Mom, Melinda Pence, who babysat me and Gretch FOREVER....well her daughter, Sara, had her first baby! Landon Jay....I can't wait to see pictures. Once I get some I will post them. I am so happy for them.

Have a great weekend!

Hello everyone! It is finally warm in New York. Actually, it is almost hot. Our air conditioners are still covered from the winter. We had them covered because there was a draft of winter wind that came through them. So now that it is warm, our landlord will have to remove them. And for once, when it is actually needed, there is no breeze. Opening the windows has not really helped today.

Tonight is my last night in the Bronx. I will have to go back and turn in my evaluations. Otherwise, I am technically finished after tonight's shift. I am looking to a week off. I start psych on the 21st. That is here in Queens so the commute should not be quite as long. I have been lucky, however, that during my night shift I have not had to take the train. Andrew, the other student I work with, picks me up and takes me home. I am very lucky. He and his wife are going to be having a baby so I got him a gift card as a thank you. I guess that is a good idea. I wanted to get him something for the baby but they do not the sex of the baby yet. Anyways....

I put up some pictures of our trip. There are not many but I hope you enjoy. You can see my baby, Asia, below. Have a great Thursday and a great weekend! Love you guys!

Well, we got home from Louisville. I will not say that it was without events, though. We arrived on time, got checked in and sat patiently. I got to talk to my friend Lisa while JT texted like crazy (which is par for the course.) Then they announced our flight was leaving late because of Chicago weather so we were going to miss our connection to NYC. So they moved us to US Airways going through Charlotte. The only debacle was the fact that we had no idea where our bags were. JT was in a huge uproar over it...well not really, but he was upset. So we were very nervous about not getting our bags. We ran through Charlotte, barely hopping on the flight to NYC. Luckily we got to NYC and OUR BAGS WERE THERE!!!! So now it is 1238 am and we are home here in New York. I will post some pictures soon. Love you guys.

Hi Everyone! Sorry for the delay in posting. I am writing you from Louisville, KY. JT's uncle Bobby passed away last night. We flew home Saturday night in anticipation of the funeral. However, we have to fly home tomorrow night, and therefore, miss the funeral. We tried to lengthen our stay but it was too costly. We will get to be present for the visitation tomorrow until about 430 and then head to the airport. We flew in Saturday morning...I had worked the night shift on Friday so I was up almost 40 hours. That was awful. Other than that, I have enjoyed the trip. I guess "enjoy" is a poor choice of words. It was nice to spend time with JT's mamaw and family. Ironically we are flying home on April 25...this trip has been booked for months now. We were originally doing it to run the half marathon. However our schedules are crazy and our running has been drastically altered. We are going to come home, nevertheless, to visit and maybe walk the race. I also get to see my friend Jason Ryan from med school that weekend. He is coming to the race. I am excited about that.

Thursday is my last night on night shift. I am missing tomorrow because our flight is late. No worries, though. My doctor said it was okay. Thankfully I have a week off before I start six weeks psychiatry. I am going to sleep late, go to the gym and such.

Well, I hope everyone has a great week. I am going to finish watching the National Championship game without listening to JT and Daniel talk politics...I hate politics now.
Love you guys!
