JT running towards the finish
Fast runners heading through Times Square
The huge marquee in Times Square
Dad finally swimming on our trip to the lake
Dad and Terri and the bottle of wine they bought in NYC

Today was JT's NYC Half Marathon.....and he is ALIVE. He ran it in 2:50, about the same time we ran the first one in, the one in Louisville. However, this was quite a bit different than Louisville in that Central Park is so hilly. It is all ups and downs. I was running around like crazy trying to find spots to watch the race. To even cross the street in Times Square, you had to go into the subway and walk under. And, of course, the trains were crazy slow. It was a good morning! Can you believe that the male winner, an Olympian, ran it in 1:00:58.....that is under a five minute mile for 13.1 miles. But regardless of JT's time, I am so proud of him for doing it!

The other two pics are from our home to KY from a few weeks ago. I have three more weeks of OBGYN, 6 weeks of peds and then we come home for good!!!! Can't wait.

Well, have a great week!

Something New.....

So I learned something new today. I learned that there is such a thing known as a peri-vagina-plasty.....It is plastic surgery for your vagina. Today it was therapeutic for cystocele/rectocele (the bladder AND the rectum falling into the vaginal cavity) ....too much medicine, I know. But the point is, and listen to this because it is crazy. They tighten and shrink the vagina to push the bladder and rectum back into place. And the resident told me that many women do this as a plastic surgery option after many children or for whatever other reasons. Figure that out..... But it was an interesting surgery to watch and learn from.

JT has his New York Half Marathon Sunday morning...he is crazy but I am proud of him and can't wait to watch him finish, even if the race does start at 7am. They run through Central Park for 7.5 miles, then down 7th avenue, through Times Square, down the West Side Hwy to Battery Park. So cheer for him on Sunday!!!!!

Have a great weekend!

So Maybe It is Inappropriate.......

So maybe it is inappropriate to talk about the GYN portion of my OBGYN rotation, but I don't really care. It is my blog after all. I was in a satellite clinic of sorts today. We only saw patients in the afternoon. Of course every other student who has gone to this clinic got out at 2-3 in the afternoon....not me and Kyle....it was after five. Not only that. It was only us two and one resident. And I was the only female. Why does that matter? For all of those ladies out there, you know there must be a female in the room during any examination. Needless to say I was busy.... And once you have done one pap smear, you have done them all...granted, there is some variation here and there, but really!!!!! It was refreshing though, to meet a sixteen year old who was not sexually active and trying to study in order to get into Columbia. Trust me that is not a common occurrence in the population we deal with. So anyways, I am tired of vaginas right now and glad tomorrow is my last clinic day. Thankfully next week is gyn surgery....maybe a little better.. but I am on call Monday night, yuck.
Well, on that note, have a great weekend! miss everyone at home!

Today there was a bomb threat at our clinic, and we are just a general obgyn practice...No need to worry though, as far as I know. Jokingly we said it could have been one of our patients because there were so many and most had to wait a long time. I know, it is not a joking matter. But really, why could it not have been at one when we had sixteen patients still to see. It is crazy what we see...everything from first diagnosis of genital herpes, to HPV wart removal, a lady's fifth baby and a lady's first baby. It is definitely a field I enjoy, but not a lifestyle I want for a lifetime.

Well I am going to take a quick nap (yea at five) before JT gets home and we head to the gym. He talked me into running a four mile race with him on Saturday. Don't they say "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I think it is shame on me now. And for sure shame on me.....it is going to be greater than ninety degrees from tomorrow until the end of the weekend. Have a great night!

I updated my blog design...something simple. I don't have much to add today. I was in the clinic today. I had a patient from Afghanistan who is six months pregnant but has not received prenatal care because she just came to the States. It was weird to turn on the news tonight to see all kinds of guns and weapons in that very country.

Anyways. I don't have much to add tonight...kind of sleepy getting into a new groove. Have a good week

6 Baby Boys....

I started OB this past week as I previously posted. The first two weeks I am scheduled in the outpatient clinic, but I was on call Friday night with my friend Kyle. From five thirty that afternoon until three am that morning we watched/helped deliver six baby boys....So crazy that they were all boys. Two were unsure of the names, I can not remember one, and the others were Nicholas Emmanuel, Kai (don't know middle), and one I can not pronounce. I got to help catch one and collect the cord blood. It was a really great experience. The babies were everywhere from eight and a half pounds to five pounds. After being on call, I slept all day yesterday. I was still tired today. But.... JT had a 10K race today plus 2 more miles to run afterwards so I went to Central Park with him. He did great and the weather was not too hot.

I have another week of OB clinic this week, but fortunately I do not have call this week. I hope everything is going well. Have a great week!

Welcome Back!!!!

I am sorry it has been awhile. After my last post, we have been busy. On the weekend of June 28, my sister, Gretchen, and step sister, Ashley, came to visit. We went to see Rent on Broadway (not JT or Gretchen's favorite). We also went to Chinatown, Union Square, the Brooklyn Bridge, and several good restaurants, among other things. On the Tuesday after they left, JT and I drove from New York to Hagarstown, Maryland and the rest of the way to my mom's on Wednesday. We spent two days in Tennessee visiting with my mom and Bob and then drove to Kentucky to spend the other two days with my dad. We spent the time with my dad on his house boat. The first day the weather was warm and storming off and on, but the fireworks were great. It was as if they were shooting them from all around us. The next day was gorgeous and we took out his pontoon boat. I, of course, got sun burned because I made sure JT was protected, but I did not put any on myself. We returned home late sunday night and are still getting back into the swing of things here in NYC. I started my OBGYN rotation yesterday, but the real work starts tomorrow. I do the next two weeks in the outpatient clinic and have 24 call this Friday night. The next two weeks are done with inpatient gynecology, mostly surgeries, with another 24 call. Finally I have two weeks of OB in the labor and delivery department, and again another call. Luckily, the 24 call is on the Thursday before my anniversary so I will have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off. JT is working, as usual. He has a six mile race this weekend. Better him than me! I hope things have been good with everyone! Have a great week!
